Pelvic Floor Therapy or The Core Connection? Here’s How to Know What You Need.
If you’ve given birth—whether recently or years ago—you may have noticed things feel… different. Maybe you leak a little when you sneeze. Maybe your core feels weak or you’re dealing with back pain. Maybe you’re simply not feeling at home in your body the way you used to.
You’re not alone, and more importantly—you’re not supposed to just “deal with it.”
Luckily we have two powerful resources here at The Alliance Center to support pelvic health: our new class, The Core Connection and pelvic floor physical therapy with Dr. Sheron Dsouza. While both offerings focus on helping you recover and feel strong again, they serve different and complementary purposes. Here's how to know which one is right for you—or whether both might be helpful.
What Is Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy?
Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialized area of care focused on the muscles, nerves and structures in the pelvic region that support bladder, bowel, and reproductive function. Dr. Sheron Dsouza is a pelvic health physical therapist and the owner of Purple Physical Therapy & Wellness. She provides both in-home sessions as well as in-clinic sessions here at the Alliance Center. As a licensed medical professional, she is trained to assess, diagnose, and treat conditions related to the pelvic floor and surrounding systems. In the postpartum period, she commonly works with:
Pelvic pain (pubic bone, tailbone, hips, low back)
Leaking (urine, gas, or stool)
Heaviness or pressure (pelvic organ prolapse)
Diastasis recti (abdominal tissue widening)
Scar tissue pain (C-section, episiotomy, tearing)
Pain with intimacy
Constipation, hemorrhoids
Posture retraining
Core and pelvic floor connection
Return to movement and exercise
Dr. Sheron takes a holistic, individualized approach that begins with a thorough external evaluation. When appropriate and with your consent, she may also perform an internal assessment to gain a deeper understanding of your pelvic floor function. She evaluates your pelvic floor in the context of posture, breath, movement, and pressure management to identify the root causes of symptoms. Treatment may include manual therapy, scar and visceral mobilization, and guided breathwork and exercises to restore strength, coordination, and ease.
What Is The Core Connection?
The Core Connection is a group movement class designed specifically for postpartum people who want to safely rebuild strength, reconnect with their bodies, and restore pelvic health through breath and movement.
Led by Molly Rafalowicz, a Certified Pregnancy & Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist and mom herself, the class grew out of her own struggle to heal diastasis recti and pelvic floor issues while juggling early motherhood. She craved the community and structure of a group class, but tailored to postpartum needs.
The Core Connection is ideal for those who want to:
Reconnect with their core and breath
Restore pelvic floor function
Build strength safely and effectively
Learn how to move with confidence
Prioritize their well-being in a supportive environment (babies welcome!)
This is not medical treatment—there are no diagnoses or internal assessments—but it’s an educational and empowering space rooted in evidence-based movement science. Each class follows a progressive format designed to help you heal, feel strong, and thrive in your body again.
So, Which One Do I Need?
You might be wondering if you need pelvic floor therapy, The Core Connection, or both. The answer depends on your body and your goals.
Start with pelvic floor physical therapy if you're experiencing persistent symptoms like pain, leaking, prolapse, or scar tissue issues. This one-on-one care is ideal for diagnosing and treating specific concerns.
Join The Core Connection if you're cleared for movement and want to build strength, reconnect with your body, and maintain progress in a guided, community-oriented class.
Many of our clients find that starting with pelvic floor therapy and transitioning into The Core Connection offers the best of both worlds: medical care for complex needs, and consistent movement support for long-term strength and confidence.
